The fourth and final in a series of conversations, titled "Increasing Diversity within the Education Profession," will take place at the Faculty Club at Brown University on Thursday, June 19, 2008. The speaker for this event will be Mica Pollock, Ph.D., associate professor of education at Harvard University. In Dr. Pollock's presentation, "Professional Development: Educating Educators on Issues of Race," she will discuss findings from a new book in which 65 experts outline concrete antiracist strategies for use in the typical classroom.
Dr. Pollock is an anthropologist of education, and studies how youth and adults struggle daily to discuss and address issues of racial difference, discrimination, and fairness in school and community settings. Attendance is by invitation only.
