"Where All Children Can Learn"
CES 35 is a K-4 school in the Morrisania section of the Bronx. Twenty-two percent of our 800 students are English language learners (ELLs). We offer computer access to all of our students through the use of computers in many of our classrooms, as well as a computer lab. We also offer a Dual Language (Spanish/English) Enrichment program to our students in grades K-2. Music, library, chess and newspaper clubs are only some of the activities in which our students can participate in extended day programs. Courses in ESL and Technology and workshops on literacy, Family Math, interpretation of data, and health concerns are also offered to our parents, as we acknowledge that their participation is essential to the success of our students.
Our community partners include: the American Chess Foundation, Ballet Tech, the Court Mentor Program, and Bronx Lebanon Hospital.
As seen in the 1998-99 Annual School Report, CES 35's students out-perform their peers on a number of state and city student achievement indicators. Their average scores on New York State reading and math exams as well as on the CTB reading and math exams are higher than those for students in similar schools. English language learners at CES 35 who took the New York City exams also did better than their peers throughout the city. Seventy-nine percent were at or above grade level in Spanish reading, compared with on 61% citywide.
